A Nonprofit Serving The Community Through Coffee
"A non-profit coffee house and event venue is not something you come across everyday (though it’s not as uncommon as you’d think). One of the most common questions we get is, 'What do you mean you’re non-profit? Where does the money go?' Well, here’s an explanation in list form:
Support Of Local Organizations: For some time, we gave away $200/month as a rule. As we continue to examine the living and breathing organism that is Everyday Joe’s under the microscope of sustainability (financial, environmental, and otherwise), the decision has been made to suspend our monthly giving and return to a model of yearly giving. This has forced us to really look at the idea of “non-profit” from a creative perspective, figuring out how we can support local organizations and ministries through means besides monetary donations. Some results have included continuing to give away our space for use, continuing to host benefit concerts, and providing in-kind donations pretty much whenever we’re asked. Yearly Giving: At the end of the financial year, we give away all profits to another community-minded organization in the area. In-Kind Donations: Throughout the year, we give in-kind donations as often as possible…donating coffee, gift cards and coupons to organizations raising money through silent auctions or wanting to thank the people that serve them. Room Usage: When an organization comes to us wanting to use the space to host a benefit concert or fundraising event, we find a way to get them on the calendar. We also let them use the room for free and donate our portion of the ticket sales (10%) to the organization" - Everyday Joe's website (http://www.everydayjoes.org/) |
